South West: Vigilance Remains Key To Safe School Resumption

Schools reopened on September 7, 2026, amid heightened security measures in Buea and other parts of the region.
S ecurity has been stepped up across the South West Re gion to ensure a peaceful and smooth start to the 2026/2027 school year, with State security forces and private security services working together to protect learners, teachers and school pro perty. Elements of the defence and security forces have been deployed to strategic areas of the town and are carrying out regular patrols. They are also visible at major junctions, including Mile 17 motor park, Mile 18 Junction, Check Point, Bonduma Gate, at various markets, among others. The measures are intended to prevent disturbances and create a safe environment for teaching and learning. Beyond the presence of State forces, several schools have engaged private security personnel to strengthen security on their cam puses. At Government Bilingual Gram mar School Molyko and Government Technical High School Molyko, private security personnel work alongside the police to safeguard the school communities. A similar arrangement is in place at Presbyterian Comprehensive Secon dary School Buea, while Baptist High School Buea has also engaged private security services. The security...
