Higher Education: Practical Skills For HND Success

S trong academic follow-up, experienced teaching staff and practical training have been identified as some of the factors behind the outstan­ ding performance of Fomic Poly­ technic University candidates in the Higher National Diploma (HND) examination this year. Speaking in Douala on September 9 on the ins­ titution’s performance, the Vice Chancellor Professor Nol Alembong explained that particular attention is given to recruiting experienced teaching staff who are familiar with the HND syllabus and com­ mitted to students’ success. “In as far as the HND is concerned, we ensure that we recruit teaching staff who are very experienced with the HND syllabus and highly com­ mitted to ensuring the success of the students,” he said. According to him, students are subjected to regular assessments throughout the acade­ mic year, including mock examina­ tions, with close monitoring conti­ nuing until the eve of the national examinations. He stated that the overall HND per­ formance stands at 96.45%, with Fomic producing the top performing student in Network and Security in the person of Nkenyi Joyceline Angyi, across the country. He also noted that a large number of candidates obtained distinctions across the va­ rious specialisations in Medical and Biomedical Sciences, Engineering, Business, and Agriculture. Beyond academic preparation, the institution places emphasis on equip­ ping students with practical skills to improve their chances of securing or creating employment after gra­ duation. Pr.
