Cameroon-Thailand: Deeper Economic Ties Envisaged

Cameroon and Thailand are moving to expand their bilateral trade and economic cooperation, focusing on key industrial sectors including agri­ cultural machinery, food processing, and logistics. The commitment was reaffirmed during a diplomatic au­ dience in Yaounde yesterday Septem­ ber 24, 2026, where the Minister of Economy, Planning and Regional De­ velopment, Alamine Ousmane Mey, received Kanokpun Phattraprinsiri, Minister Councillor of the Kingdom of Thailand who doubles as the Director of the Thailand Trade Centre in Abuja, Nigeria. The meeting centred on crea­ ting fresh avenues for partnership between both nations through the active involvement of the Thai Trade Centre, an agency operating under the Department of International Trade Promotion within Thailand's Ministry of Commerce. Speaking with the press after the close to 45 minutes in-camera ses­ sion, Kanokpun Phattraprinsiri revea­ led that out of several high-priority sectors earmarked for joint ventures and mutual exchange, “agricultural machinery was foregrounded given Cameroon’s ongoing push to moder­ nize its farming sector and boost food security,” she said.
