Environmental Reclamation: Integrated Landscape Management Scheme Launched

n a bid to mitigate land degradation and propel sustainable biodiversity management, the government of Cameroon through the Ministry of the Environment, Nature Protection and Sustainable Development (MINEPDED), in collaboration with the United Nations Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO) met in Yaounde yesterday Sep­ tember 29, 2026 to validate the project document on integrated landscape ma­ nagement for sustainable use of bio­ diversity and drought resilience in the North and Far North Regions. This project comes at a time when both Regions have over the years been plagued with plights including increased land degradation, growing pressure on natural resources, biodiversity loss, and recurring droughts and floods that contributes to making the country's economy fragile and heavily dependent on subsistence farming and livestock, particularly in the Northern Regions. Consequently, these areas according to Minister Hele Pierre, face high po­ verty, insecurity, and significant vul­ nerability to climate change. As such, the project the Minister explained, will promote approaches that simul­ taneously preserve biodiversity, restore degraded ecosystems, and ensure the sustainable use of natural resources in local communities.
