Bee Farming: Gov’t Donates Modern Equipment To Farmers

The tools handed to several apiculturists from across the nation by Dr Taiga on October 8, 2026 in Yaounde, are intended to boost local production and enhance exports.
B eekeepers in Cameroon conve ned in Yaounde to comme morate the international day for bees, yesterday October 8, 2026. The ceremony chaired by the Mi nister of Livestock, Fisheries and Animal Industries (MINEPIA), Dr Taiga, was culminated by the signing of the terms of reference document between MINEPIA and beekeepers, as well as the handover of bee har vesting and processing equipment to apiculturists from Cameroon’s ten Regions. “Bees play a salient role in plant, animal, and human de velopment. They are an ecological driver for food security, income ge neration, employment, rural deve lopment, and resilience to climate change.” Dr Taiga told the farmers. He added that, this explains why the world celebrated this year’s edi tion on May 20th under the theme, “together with bees for the popu lation and the planet”. In Cameroon, bee keeping and far ming is of particular importance across the nation’s five major agro ecological zones significant for floral diversity likewise the attainment of the nation’s national development strategy 2030 (SND300). Dr Taiga explained that in 2025, Cameroon produced over 8,100 tons of honey, with a total export of 500 tons. While these figures seem encoura ging, the Minister urged farmers to work in synergy with the Ministry’ guidelines contained in its 2027- 2029 programming framework that prioritises technical support for bee keepers, improved access to equip ment and technologies, strengthen quality and food safety of hive pro ducts, amongst others.
