Upcoming Presidential Election: House Speaker Encourages Political Maturity

While chairing the opening plenary at the National Assembly on June 10, 2025, Cavaye Yeguie Djibril called on stakeholders to exercise restraint and act responsibly.

As Cameroon prepares for the Presidential election this October, the Speaker of the National Assembly, Cavaye Yeguie Djibril while chairing the opening plenary on June 10, 2025 has appealed on every actor in the electoral process to exercise a high sense of patriotism. As the effervescence around the election is mounting, the House Speaker noted that it is imperative for stakeholders to exercise restraint and act responsibly. “We must not forget that Cameroon will continue to exist after October 2025 and would need the same stakeholders to overcome present and future challenges. Besides, we are all duty bound, in our respective capacity, to ensure the Presidential election is conducted in a peaceful and serene atmosphere. The October 2025 poll would afford us another opportunity to showcase Cameroon’s ingrained capacity to organise major events, including the organisation of elections. It would also afford our country the opportunity to assert the political maturity of Cameroonians and further solidify Cameroon's democratic base,” Cavaye Yeguie Djibril stated. The Member of Parliament further stated that the main challenge for the upcoming election is ensuring a good turnout. He notes that maximum participation in the October Presidential election will serve as a template for voters’ civic responsibility and mass political participation. This he notes, can only be made possible by duly registering at Elections Cameroon. “That is why I am exhorting fellow Cameroonians of voting age to seize the opportunity given to them by law to massively get enrolled in the electoral register and be eligible to perform their civic duty at the appropriate time,” added the House Speaker.
