Cameroonians In Club: Mixed Fortunes

nWith the conclusion of most championships abroad, Cameroon Tribune takes a critical look at the performance of some players plying their trade in different leagues.

One of the best ways to improve performance is to evaluate what has been done, note the points that went smoothly, analyse the sour areas and propose measures for a better future. This is therefore the raison d’être of Cameroon Tribune’s desire to draw a balance sheet of the performance of some Cameroonian players at club level following the conclusion of most championships abroad. The dossier therefore seeks to highlight those who did well, identify loopholes for those who are struggling and propose solutions to bring back the heyday when Cameroonian footballers dictated the pace in top clubs abroad. Very few Cameroonian players ply their trade in prestigious clubs abroad, and among the few, only a handful are really excelling. As for those who stood out this season, performance indicators such as winning competitions, player-contributions and minutes of play, amongst others are decisive elements to take into consideration. André Onana, for example, made the nation proud when he lifted the Turkish Cup with Trabzonspor. His name trended on social media; not just because he is Onana, but because good news in this light, especially in renowned championships, has been scarce this season. Che Malone also stands out. He won the Algerian Cup with USM Alger this season and most remarkably, the CAF Confederation Cup. It is perhaps evidence that despite the drought, a few young players are excelling.
