Cameroon-European Union: Deepening Consultations, Cooperation

The first annual session of the partnership dialogue between the two parties took place yesterday June 4, 2026 at the Ministry of External Relations.

Within the framework of deepening collaboration concerning Cameroon and the European Union, the first annual session of the partnership dialogue between the two parties took place on June 4, 2026 at the Ministry of External Relations. Deliberations were co-chaired by the Minister Delegate to the Minister of External Relations in charge of Cooperation with the Commonwealth, Felix Mbayu and the Ambassador, Head of the European Union Delegation to Cameroon, Jean- Marc Châtaigner. This partnership dialogue constitutes a formal framework for discussions and exchanges amongst partners, with the aim of improving and deepening the relations that unite the two entities. Amidst other things, the partnership dialogue seeks to encourage mutual understanding, facilitate the definition of priorities and common principles, particularly by recognising the links established between the parties in various areas of cooperation provided for by the Agreement, facilitate consultations and prevent situations in which a party might deem it necessary to resort to the non-performance clause. Discussions at the first annual session for this year thus centred on four main points which border around the follow- up on the implementation of the last session’s (December 2024) recommendations on illegal, unreported, and unregulated fishing, an update on the implementation of the recommendations accepted by Cameroon during the fourth Universal Periodic Review on human rights, and a general review of cooperation between Cameroon and the European Union.
