Housing, Urbanisation: UN Official Salutes Strides

E volutions recorded by Ca­ meroon with regards to hou­ sing and urbanisation have been appreciated by the Executive Director of UN-Habitat, Anaclaudia Rossbach, who was yes­ terday September 9, 2026 granted an audience by the Prime Minister, Head of Government, Joseph Dion Ngute. Talking to the press, the UN official said there is progress in the housing and urbanisation policy with much done in the decentralisation process and a significant advancement with the Sustainable Development Goal localisation. “There are stronger communities at the local level. And we need the local level because this is where land is located. So the decentralisation process is very fa­ vourable. We have worked together with Cameroon on a national urban policy, which is also a progress. There is great potential in terms of locally produced building materials that we have identified here,” she said, adding that there are several other areas of great potential such as land reforms that can pave the way for a stronger housing policy and finance system. The Executive Director added that together with the Prime Minister, they discussed collaboration bet­ ween Cameroon and the United Na­ tions specialised agency in the ur­ banisation journey, examining pos­ sibilities of greater partnership to address challenges in the sector.
