Cameroon Mali Friendly in View

The match will serve a warm up for the Lionesses in preparation for the upcoming women AFCON.

After a string of friendlies against local sides, the Lionesses will step up their preparation for the 2016 Women AFCON with a series of friendly matches against viable sparring partners like Mali, Tanzania and Kenya. The first of the friendly matches destined to serve as warm up for the Lionesses will be against Mali on October 13th, followed by a second confrontation on October 16. Other friendly matches are in the pipeline notably against Kenya who will be in their maiden participation at the continental jamboree and Tanzania, winner of the CECAFA cup and whose style of play is similar to that of fellow Group A opponent, South Africa.

According to head coach, Enow Ngatchu, the friendly matches couldn’t be scheduled before the draws were conducted to avoid teams in the same group meeting before the tournament. Now that the draws have been conducted, the way is open for international friendlies. More friendly matches are envisaged probably against Nigeria or Ghana. Before now, the Lionesses had contented themselves playing against local opposition especially male teams. “Playing all the time against men enables us to evaluate the players in every aspect but when we play against a female national selection, it enables us to see something different,” said Enow Ngatchu.

Meanwhile, the Lionesses concluded the 5th phase of their preparation which ran from September 12 -24 and will be having two days of rest with their families before resuming duty for the international friendlies on September 27th. During their training in Akono, the Lionesses played two friendly matches. They pulled a 2 all draw against Gloria FC and in the second encounter bowed 1-2 to Apejes.
