Zimbabwe: Mighty Warriors Camp Delayed

Financial difficulties have once again forced the Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) to postpone the training camp to an unknown date.

 

According to announcements made by ZIFA, the players were expected to commence camping by October, 27, 2016 but unfortunately, the money promised by government has been delayed. ZIFA communication Officer, Xolisani Gwesela, said after the logistic problems were settled, the team will go to camp next week. “We are expecting them to start camping next week. It is true time is no longer on our side, but we are doing all we can to ensure the team starts its preparation”, she is quoted to have told Daily News website.

During the week, the Permanent Secretary in the Sports Ministry, Godfrey Chipare, who appeared before the Parliament Portfolio Committee of Sports and Recreation, said the Treasury asked both senior national teams to look for funding elsewhere. This was as the government was not going to cover their Africa Cup of Nations assignments.

The news was not received warmly by Coach Mlauzi, who expressed dissatisfaction at the constant shifting of the training. He wanted to use the friendly matches to evaluate the younger players. The most disturbing fact...
