West Region: Significant Participation

All the 2,530 polling stations went operational with voter participation hitting almost 50 per cent by 4pm

The kickoff to the enthusiasm of the population of the West Region to exercise their civic duty was given as early as 8:40 am when the Region's Governor, Awa Fonka Augustine cast his vote at the Bafoussam City Council.

He called on the population to massively participate in the election, assuring them of the measures already taken to ensure security.

Voting took place under the keen attention of over 100 observers coming from Non Governmental Organisations such as the African Union, the European Union, Horizon femme and several national associations.

According to statistics from the West Regional Bureau of ELECAM, there were all together 73,870 registered voters for the 2,530 polling stations.

From every indication, the population of the West Region took the election with seriousness. All businesses were closed including restaurants. Only vehicles belonging to security men and those with authorisation to circulate could be seen plying the towns and villages.
