The administration in respect of the Electoral Code played a key role in the organisation and success of the October 7, 2018 presidential election.

The Minister of Territorial Administration, Paul Atanga Nji in his opening speech during the first semester conference of the Regional Governors on September 10, 2018 in Yaounde declared, “The Head of State, His Excellency Paul Biya, architect of Cameroon’s democracy and champion of political ‘fair play’, urges me to instruct you Mr Regional Governors, to ensure the security of all candidates of the presidential election.”

The involvement of the administration in the electoral process is based on the provisions of Section 43 (7) of the Electoral Code which states that, “the administration brings its collaboration and support to Elections Cameroon within the framework of executing the mission assigned to it.” The Regional Governor’s conference that held on the theme, “Administrative authorities and the securing of the elec toral process,” was already a giant step in preparing the entire administrative machinery to effectively carry out one of its key missions of ensuring security before, during and after the October 7, 2018 presidential election.

Talking to the press during a press conference on October 5, 2018 at the Ministry of Communication and in the declaration after the close of the polls, Territorial Administration Minister announced that the administration ef fectively ensured the security of candidates and members of their campaign rallies all over the country. “After the closure of polling stations, information at our disposal indicates that the electoral process generally went on hitch-free in calm, serenity and transparency throughout the national territory,” Minister Atanga Nji said on Sunday, October 7 evening.
