Kumbo Catholic Medical School Launched

The Ministers of Higher Education and Public Health on November 10, 2016, also laid the foundation stone of the institute.

 

The Minister of Higher Education and Chancellor of Academic Orders, Prof. Fame Ndongo, and his colleague of Public Health, André Mama Fouda, were in Kumbo in Bui Division of the North West Region on Thursday, November 10, 2016. During the visit, they laid the foundation stone of the Catholic University of Cameroon, CATUC, Bamenda, Kumbo campus at Melim, five kilometres out of Kumbo.

The ministers also visited the Shisong Cardiac Centre and the Fon of Nso in his palace. The School of Health and Medical Sciences, Kumbo, opened some four years ago, but was later shut down by government for not meeting conditions. At the beginning of last academic year, the institution was reopened. “Four years ago, Kumbo and Bui Division received CATUC with a lot of joy, but it was later turned into sadness when we learnt that it was shut down. We thank those who fought hard to get the school reopened,” declared Lukong Margaret Beri, First Deputy Mayor for Kumbo. She appealed to the Minister of Higher Education to open the Faculty of Veterinary Medicines of the University of Bamenda in Jakiri.

Prof. Fame Ndongo, who requested a minute of silence in honour of fallen Prof. Emeritus Bole Butake, a son of Bui Division, lauded the Public Health Minister for accompanying him to Kumbo.
