Visiting UN Women Regional Director for West and Central Africa, Diane Louise Ofwona has expressed the institution’s gratitude to the Head of State, Paul Biya, for accepting to patronise the official launch of the HeForShe women’s rights campaign today in Yaounde.

After an audience with the Minister of External Relations, Lejeune Mbella Mbella, on August 10, 2016 in Yaounde, Diane Louise Ofwona told the press that she relayed the message of appreciation sent by the Executive Director of UN Women, Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka. The HeForShe campaign, she said, will be launched in Yaounde today Thursday in the presence of the Head of State’s representative, Prime Minister Philemon Yang. “We thank him for the courtesy and honour he bestowed on the HeForShe campaign which will ensure that men and women are involved in promoting gender equality,” she explained.

Diane Louise Ofwona was on her first visit to the External Relations Minister with whom she reviewed collaboration between UN Women and the Cameroonian government. “We are also very grateful for Cameroon’s financial and technical contribution to UN Women which for the first time is a multiyear contribution,” she added.

UN Women is the United Nation’s entity for gender equality and empowerment of women. It works to develop and uphold standards while creating an environment in which every woman and girl can exercise her human rights and live up to her full potential.
