Zoom : Official Election Results Awaited

Both political parties and traditional rulers who participated in the December 6, 2020 election of Regional Councillors are awaiting the proclamation of official results.

A day after the first election of Regional Councillors on December 6, 2020, anxiety characterises the headquarters of political parties that filed candidates for the election and traditional rulers who are candidates. It is true that the results trends are available following the work of the Local Polling Commissions after the close of the polls. However, all parties and traditional rulers are awaiting the official results in compliance with Section 265 (1) of the Electoral Code which provides that, “The regional supervisory commission shall proclaim the results of the election of regional councillors at the level of the constituency concerned within 72 hours following the closure of the poll.” 
At the Yaounde General Secretariat of the Central Committee of the ruling Cameroon People’s Democratic Movement (CPDM) on December 7, 2020, there was studious calm with different officials working. Some heads of the Divisional campaign teams for the election were said to be trickling in with reports on the conduct of the polls. At the time Cameroon Tribune got to the Central Committee, the Secretary General of the Central Committee, Jean Nkuete was just seeing off the leader of the Mfoundi campaign team, Minister Laurent Serge Etoundi Ngoa who was said to have come with the report. Sources at the Central Committee disclosed that other officials who had been on the field were still awaited. At of the CPDM press organs, a special issue of L’Action newspaper was  being prepared to be published tomorrow.
The Director of the National Union for Democracy and Progress (NUDP) headquarters in Yaounde, Kuma Peter Kombain said they were just back from the field and were preparing a press conference on the electoral process. The press conference which was programmed for the December 7, 2020 evening was to be the occasion for the party to present its performance in the elections by giving results trends.
