Management of Public Funds : Senators Edified On Fundamental Principles

This was during an exchange forum between the Finance and Budget Committee of the Senate and the Audit Bench of the Supreme Court on December 7, 2020.

Within the framework of strengthening the control of public funds, Senators and the Audit Bench of the Supreme Court have exchanged best ideas on how allocated resources can be effectively used for the development of the country. This was during the 15th exchange forum between the two parties concerned on December 7, 2020 in Yaounde co-presided at by the Vice President of the Senate, Naah Ondoua Sylvestre and the President of the Audit Bench of the Supreme Court, Yap Abdou. 
In his preliminary statement, Senator Ondoua said the exchange forum which is coming at a time when Senators are examining the draft State budget for the 2021 financial year is very apt as it will help the lawmakers better identify community advancement axes to be prioritized. Senators, he noted, question government expenditure on projects. The ideas gained from the exchange forum, he further stated, will be used in ensuring the effective control of public funds. 
On his part, Justice Yap Abdou said in line with the Constitution, Section 85 of Law No.2018/012 of 11 July 2018 laying down the financial regime makes Parliament the appointed controller of government action and the first supervisor of public finance.
