Glimmer of Hope

The multibillion Yaounde-Nsimalen highway is about to be completed. Work on the rural section of the road is said to have entered the last lap. Technically speaking, this section of the project has been executed at about 90 per cent. This is surely an execution rate that rekindles lots of hope for the project that ought to have been submitted about four years back. Technicians are busy working on the culverts and other areas that need to be attended to. There is already double assurance that this section of the road will be completed before the Africa Cup of Nations jamboree kicks-off. As the saying goes, it is better late than never. Already, inhabitants along the road are expressing satisfaction especially as they are quite aware the road will be bringing development to their villages.
Concerns over the Yaounde-Nsimalen road is something of a normalcy considering that the double-carriage way was conceived to give the main gateway into the country's capital city the accessibility it deserves. The project comprises rural and urban sections that are being executed progressively. At the moment, focus is on the rural section. Users of the road can already testify of the visible work on the 11.3km section of the road. Groundwork is said to have advanced significantly for the 10 km urban section of the road. That will certainly be executed after AFCON 2021. It is hoped that once the construction starts on the second segment of the road, hurdles encountered on the rural section should be avoided; the greatest being the famous compensation paid to the local population.
The Yaounde-Nsimalen highway is one of the country’s major infrastructure projects. It is expected to transform the capital city into a modern city that has always been the dream of Yaounde inhabitants and Cameroon as a whole. Once completed, this highway, will come with many overpass bridges, interchanges, and numerous traffic circles. It will give the people of Yaounde a glimpse of a true modern city. The slow pace at which the project is going is what is driving fears into the hearts of many inhabitants. However, the near completion of the rural section of the road raises a lot of hope.
