2022 African Athletics Championship : Cameroon’s Hosting Rights In Doubts

Due to the delay in confirming the date proposed by the CAA the competition has now been attributed to the Mauritius Island.

Cameroon was designated host of the 23rd edition of the African Athletics Championship in 2022. That was supposed to be the second time for the country to host the prestigious event. The first time was in 1996 during the 10th edition that took place from June 13 to 16 at the Yaounde Omnisports Stadium. The decision for Cameroon to host the 2022 edition of the African Athletics Championship was taken during a meeting of the Confederation of African Athletics (CAA) that took place on September 24, 2019 in Doha. 
The competition was scheduled to take place from June 2 to 6, 2022 in Yaounde. However, rumours have it that Cameroon has been stripped of its hosting rights and the competition attributed to the Mauritius Island. The Secretary General of the Cameroon Athletics Federation, Charles Kouoh Kotte said Cameroon had to confirm the date proposed by the CAA and give all the guarantees of being ready by then. Our source said due to the delay by Cameroon to confirm the date, the CAA attributed the competition to the Mauritius Island that is ready to host. Apart from that the situation of the Olembe Stadium is a cause for worry, the running track for athletes is still under construction. Till date, uncertainty looms over the completion of works in the stadium. <...
