1986 : One Step To Trophy

Cameroon was beaten by host nation, Egypt on penalties 5-4 at the final after a goalless draw.

At the 1986 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) which ran from March 7 to 21, 2021, Cameroon narrowly missed the trophy after being defeated by host nation, Egypt at the final on penalties. Placed in group B, Cameroon crossed the group stage in flying colours, emerging first with five points. They were pooled alongside Morocco, Algeria and Zambia. The Indomitable Lions won their first match at the Alexandria stadium against Zambia (3-2) but stepped down in the second match against Morocco by getting a draw at the end (1-1). They stepped up again in their last group game and won Algeria (3-2). In all the group games, Milla Roger’s shot saw the back of the net. Cameroon and Morocco crossed to the semifinals. Meanwhile in group A, Egypt and Côte d’Ivoire picked a spot in the semifinals. 
Cameroon played against Côte d’Ivoire at that stage and Milla succeeded to score the lone goal that gave his country the qualification into the final. On the other hand, host nation Egypt, played their semifinal game against Morocco and picked a 1-0 win thereby securing their spot in the final.
