Cape Verde : Blue Sharks Thirsty For Glory

The team led by Coach Bubista has as objective to go beyond the group stage during the 33rd edition of the TotalEnergies AFCON.


The Blue Sharks of Cape Verde will appear in the in the continent’s flagship competition for the third time. That is their first appearance after having back-to-back appearances in 2013 and 2015. The team will compete in group A beside hosts Cameroon, Burkina Faso and Ethiopia. Cape Verde qualified for their first AFCON in 2013 when the when they defeated Cameroon 3–2 on aggregate score, following a 2-1 defeat to Cameroon at the Stade Ahmadou Ahidjo in Yaoundé, having won the home leg 2-0 in Praia just weeks prior to their qualification. 
During the 2013 AFCON in South Africa, Cape Verde reached the quarterfinals of the competition. That was their best performance in the AFCON tournament. In 2015 in Equatorial Guinea, the Blue Sharks were booted out of the competition at the group stage. For the 33rd edition of the TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon, Cape Verde is coming with lots of ambitions and expectations. The team led by CoachPedro Leitão Brito commonly known as Bubista has as objective to go beyond the group stage and play the second round.
