Nigeria-Guinea Bissau : Super Eagles Humble The Djurtus

Playing at the Roumde Adjia stadium, yesterday the Nigerians edged their Guinean counterpart 2 – 0.

Despite bagging a round of 16-ticket, the Super Eagles of Nigeria yesterday put on a good show, bashing the Djurtus of Guinea Bissau 2-0 at the Roumde Adjia stadium. With a completely overhauled squad that saw head coach Augustine Eguavoen lining-up eight new players as compared to their previous match against Sudan, the Super Eagles  raided the Djurtus vital zone several times with centre forward Sadiq Umar missing a glaring opportunity at the 23rd minute after beating goalkeeper Maurice Gomis before stumbling on the ball. The missed spurred the Eagles who created many other opportunities that were either squandered or thwarted by a well-positioned Guinean defence.
After a barren first half characterized by misses, the second half began on a good note as the two coaches decided to bring the same players on the turf. While the Guinean play maker, Moreto Moro moved position at the midfield several times in order to create scoring opportunities, it was the Nigerians that were very enterprising at the flanks with Chidera Ejuka and Iheanacho Kelechi combining well. Their constant pressure and show of maturity in their style of play paid off at the 56th minute when 24-shirted player Sadiq Umar found the back of goalkeeper Maurice Gomis`s net for the first goal of the encounter.
