Sports Season 2021 : Festive Communion!

Prime Minister Joseph Dion Ngute, representative of the Head of State, President Paul Biya presided at the event at the Yaounde Omnisport Stadium on March 13, 2022.

The 2021 sports season ended in Cameroon on March 13, 2022 and the one for the 2022 started in a grandiose sports celebration at the Yaounde Omnisport Stadium. Prime Minister, Head of Government, Joseph Dion Ngute, representative of the Head of State, President Paul Biya presided at the  ceremony whose hallmark was the Cameroon Cup Final in which PWD Social Club of Bamenda emerged victorious by beating Astres Football Clup of Douala by one goal to zero.
The Cameroon Cup Final offered yet another opportunity for Cameroonians to celebrate the uniting nature of sports and the splendour of Cameroon’s rich cultural diversity as was the case during the Africa Cup of Nations TotalEnergies AFCON 2021 the country organised from January 9 to February 6, 2022. The 60th edition of the Cameroon Cup Final remains historic not only for coming after the AFCON 2021 but more importantly for coming after the break imposed by the Covid-19 pandemic. It equally remains history as PWD Social Club of Bamenda after two previous failed attempts finally won the trophy. It will also be remembered as the first Cameroon Cup Final in which Samuel Eto’o Fils participated in his capacity as the President of the Cameroon Football Federation (FECAFOOT). Everywhere he passed, he received a standing ovation from the cheering crowd.
Indeed, the grandiose sports event was both solemn and festive. Solemnity came when the Prime Minister, representative of the Head of State Paul Biya alighted from his limousine at 2:00 pm and was received by the Minister of Sports and Physical Education, Professor Narcisse Mouelle Kombi.  After this, a young lad handed a welcome bouquet of flowers to the Prime Minister that was followed by the singing of the National Anthem. The Head of State’s representative continued by inspecting the guard of honour mounted by the detachments of the National Gendarmerie, Military, Firefighting Brigade and the Police. Thereafter, the Minister of  Sports  and Physical Education presented to him the Presidents of the different sports associations in the country who received his encouragement, then the players and officials of  PWD Bamenda and Astres of Douala, the two teams that played the final.  This part of the celebration gave way to the choreographic display of Cam...
