National Handball Championship: Competition Resumes This Weekend

The national championship will enable clubs prepare for the African Clubs Winners’ Cup and the AFCON that will take place this year.

It will be an exciting weekend for handball lovers in the country. The 2022 handball season will kick off tomorrow March 19, 2022. Organised by the Cameroon Handball Federation, (FECAHAND), the opening tournament will bring together four teams from across the country. The men’s teams are MINUH Yaounde, VITA Yaounde and Friendship Yaounde. The women’s teams are Tonnere Kalara Clu Yaounde and Tigresse of Batchenga.
The one day tournament will consist of 25 players and eight officials. Each game will have 18 players and four officials. The matches will be played in 25 minutes per half rather than the normal 30 minutes. The matches will be played at the Youth Centre in the Madagascar neighbourhood in Yaounde. The formula will be the semi-finals, final and a triangular tournament.
After a long break, the different teams are warming up in their various hideouts ahead of the competition. As the championship begins tomorrow, all the teams will be seeking for points in order to secure a comfortable spot on the classification table. The competition will unfold in the senior men’s and women’s categories. The kick off of the new handball season will be an opportunity for the national men’s handball team to fine-tune preparations for the 25th edition of the Senior African Men’s Handball Cup which will take place in Morocco from June 22 to July 2, 2022.
