Cameroon’s Prime Minister, Head of Government, Joseph Dion Ngute represented the Head of State, President Paul Biya at the funeral which brought together some 500 world leaders. Before yesterday’s state funeral, the President had in a message of condolence sent to the Royal family expressed his condolences for the painful loss which he noted, would not only affect the UK, but also other members of the Commonwealth of Nations.
What however makes great yesterday’s state funeral for Britain’s longest reigning monarch is not only the fact that for 70 years on the throne, she was able to keep the monarchy united and progressive, but also faced successfully the challenges of keeping great a former colonial power that contributed much to the industrial and technological development of mankind. This keeps the country proud of its people and its system of education.
Besides being the head of member states of the Commonwealth of Nations, the UK is proud of its contribution to democratic governance as well as other forms of socio-cultural and technological developments. It is even a surprise to some political analysts that the British monarchy has been able to survive despite its commitment to democratic governance and post-colonial geopolitical challenges. The secret to this success story no doubt is political commitment and patriotism.
