England-Senegal : Three Lions Progress To Quarterfinals

The Teranga Lions bowed out of the competition last night after a three nil defeat by England who advance to the last eight of the competition.

England set up a quarterfinal clash against France after breezing past Senegal three nil last night in the round of 16 played at the Al Bayt Stadium. Goals from Jordan Henderson (38’), Harry Kane (45+13’) and Bukayo Saka (60’) capped a commanding performance for the Three Lions. Described as “The Battle of Lions”, Senegal went into the game looking to reach the last eight for the second time in just their third World Cup participation and almost took the lead midway through the first half but Boulaye Dia’s shot was palmed away by the big hand of Jordan Pickford to keep the scores level.
That was just it for Senegal in the first half as waves of England attacks followed before the Three Lions went ahead through Jordan Henderson (38’). The Liverpool midfielder was at the end of a well-worked pass from Jude Bellingham to finish past Edouard Mendy. The gulf in class between the two sides began as an avalanche of chances followed for England thereafter but the Three Lions could not apply the finish. England did get a second before the break when Jude Bellingham broke forward with the ball to slide in Harry Kane (45+3’) who wrong footed Edouard Mendy with a powerful drive.
Despite three changes at the break for Senegal, the second half couldn’t start any better for the Teranga Lions who conceded a third. Phil F...
