Qatar 2022 : France Sets Up Argentina Final Showdown!

Les Bleus joined Argentina into next Sunday’s final after beating the Atlas Lions of Morocco by two goals to zero last night at the Al Bayt Stadium.

France put an end to Morocco’s fairy-tale run at the 2022 FIFA World Cup by dispatching the Atlas Lions two nil last night at the Al Bayt Stadium to book their place into Sunday’s final against Argentina. Goals from Theo Hernandez (5’) and Randal Kolo Muani (79’) sealed the victory for Les Bleus who are now looking to defend their crown against Argentina on Sunday at the Lusail Iconic Stadium.
The task was made easy for Les Bleus when they raced into an early lead five minutes into the game through Theo Hernandez. The full back arrived at the back post to volley home the ball past goalkeeper Yacine Bounou after his defenders failed to clear their lines from and Antoine Griezmann ball into the box. Morocco’s misery was further compounded after centre back Romain Saiss left his team mates on the pitch after hurting his already injured thigh. The Atlas Lions grew into the game and were unlucky not to go level before the break as Jawal El Yamiq hit the post.
The Atlas Lions grew in confidence at the start of the second half and looked to hurt France by exploiting the spaces behind their wing backs but lacked the finishing touch to draw level. France showed they are champions’ material by defending in numbers and throwing men forward on the counter when needed. It is during one of these breaks forward that substitute Randal Kolo Muani (79’) doubled their advantage just 44 seconds after coming on. The winger, left unmarked six yards out at the back post guided home Mbappe’s blocked shot to spark wild scenes of celebrations on the French bench and among their few fans in the stands. The reigning champions then held firm to snuff out any iota of come back from the Moroccans.
