Qatar 2022 : The World Cup In Numbers

The 2022 FIFA World Cup has come and gone but it has produced some memorable numbers that will live for long with records broken and set both on and off the pitch.
-First ever World Cup to be hosted in the Arab World and Middle East.
-Qatar became the 80th different nation to participate at the World Cup.
- Cumulative attendance of over 2.45 million (96%) spectators at the group stage; more than 2018.
-88,966 spectators attended the Argentina v Mexico game, the largest World Cup attendance since the 1994 World Cup final.
- 172 goals scored in 64 matches, averaging 2.68 goals per match. It was the highest number of goals scored in a single World Cup ahead of France 1998 and Brazil 2014 editions, which saw 171 goals each. 
-16 teams from all the continents progressed to the knockout stages for the first time in the history of the competition.
-For the first time in 20 years, there were group winners from four different confederations (also in 1986, 2002).
-Morocco became the first African side to reach the semi-finals of the World Cup; surpassing the quarter finals records of Cameroon, Senegal and Ghana.
