Aymen Mahious : History-making Boy

The 25-year-old Algerian forward scored the first goal of the 2022 African Nations Championship.

It was a good start for host Algeria at the 2022 African Nations Championship (CHAN) as they beat Libya 1-0 on January 13, 2023 in the tournament’s opener. Aymen Mahious was the architect of this goal taken from the penalty spot. The Algerian forward was brought down in the 18-yard box by Libyan goalkeeper, Muad Allafi and the referee pointed to the spot. Mahious steadily kicked the ball into the left corner sending goalkeeper Allafi the wrong way in the 57th minute. The goal did not only give Algeria their first three points in the tournament, but made Aymen Mahious a history-making boy. He will be remembered as the first scorer of the 2022 African Nations Championship played in Algeria. He again wrote his name in the history books as the scorer of the first-ever goal at the newly inaugurated Nelson Mandela Stadium.
