Mount Cameroon Race of Hope : Preparations Steam Up

A series of qualification test races were organised across the country on Saturday January 21, 2023.

The Mount Cameroon Race of Hope is billed for February 25, 2023 and the different regional leagues are mobilising to provide participants for this grandiose rendezvous. On Saturday January 21, 2023 a series of regions were on the spotlight as they organised qualification test races. In the Centre region, it was the Mount Mbankolo Race that reunited athletes from different parts of the country in different categories. Organised by the Centre Regional League of Athletics, a total of 111 athletes were part of this rendezvous. Kick-off and arrival were at Carrefour Foire, besides the Yaounde Conference Centre. While the Junior and veteran categories had to run just a part of the journey, the senior women and men had to go pass the bushes and the thorny route to reach the top of Mount Mbankolo and back which counts a total of 23 km. In the senior women’s category; it is Mendouga Otomo who finished first 1.33.40. She is ahead of Andree Ossombe who went through the rough journey in 1.41.50. The third place in this category is occupied by Sylveria Ngong win  1.44.13. In the Senior men’s category, Pascal Pare carried the day in 1.16.15. He was closely followed by Youssao Abbo and Sylvain Nzeukang who occupy the second and third positions respectively. The event ended hitch-free despite a few health cases that were immediately taken care of.
