Deaf Sports : Centre Region Launches Activities

Some 80 athletes took part in the competition on Saturday February 18, 2023 in Yaounde.

It was a special day for athletes with hearing deficiencies in Yaounde and elsewhere on Saturday February 18, 2023. The event was the launch of sports activities for the Deaf Sports Federation in the Centre Region that took place at the campus of Lycée Général Leclerc in Yaounde. Organised by the Centre Regional Deaf Sports League (LIRESSO-CE), the event brought together 80 athletes from across the Centre Region. For the first playing day, three sports disciplines- football, handball and basketball were on the programme. 
The day began with the football competition. Four teams were involved in the competition. The teams are Association of Young Deaf Footballers FC (AJFS), Soleil Sourds Football FC (SSFC), Fondation Football Deaf Yaounde (FFDY) and Union Sportif Club de Football Deaf (USCFS). The particularity of the match is that it was officiated by referees with hearing abilities. In the first game, AJFS beat SSFC 1-0. Dan Baboga won the trophy for the Man of the Match. In the second game, USCFS beat FFDY 3-0. Patrick Arthur was the Man of the Match.
