MTN Elite One : UMS, Canon Clash In Leadership Tussle

Occupying the first and second positions in Group A, both clubs meet this weekend in match day 15 to boost their positions on the standings.

After the advanced day 15 game that saw newly promoted Gazelle of Garoua beat Fovu Club of Baham 1-0, eight other matches of this playing day are billed for this weekend in stadiums across the country. Top of them will see UMS of Loum against Canon of Yaounde in Group A on Sunday March 5, 2023. UMS is first on the standings with 24 points meanwhile Canon is second with 21 points. UMS will be fighting to widen the lead as Canon hopes to catch up and equal the 24 points of their opponents.
It will be a fairly equal game as both sides have the potentials to carry the day. In the first leg, Canon beat UMS 2-1 to clinch additional three points on match day 4. The Yaounde-based club thus aims for a similar scenario to consolidate their supremacy while UMS will be out for revenge knowing the stakes on ground. UMS is in a better form of recent after succeeding to overpower PWD 1-0 in the last playing day while Canon could only manage a draw against Eding (0-0). No doubt, the game will be tough, but the team with more fighting spirit and determination will carry the day. Fourth placed Colombe, that still have a delayed day 14 game against Coton (third), may be having an easy ride this weekend. They might be adding another three points to their current 19 as they log horns against second to the last placed Avion. Djiko, eighth on the standings, will have to wait until March 21, 2023 to play their day 15 game against Coton Sport, that is attending to continental duties.
