Professional Life : Collective Convention, Rights Preoccupy Trade Union

A session of the executives of the National Federation of Industrial Workers of Cameroon relaunched its activities at Bali in the economic capital on March 21, 2023.

Trade unionists have been tutored on the application of collective conventions, workers’ and employers’ rights. This was during a board meeting of the National Federation of Industrial Workers of Cameroon, known by its French acronym as FENATICAM, at Club SNEC in Bali, Douala, on March 21, 2023. The object we of the meeting was to relaunch activities of the trade union following a slowing down due to Covid-19 pandemic.
Prince Gongue Roy de Baloua, Secretary of the National Federation of Industrial Workers of Cameroon, told them that collective conventions are not the same and as a result cannot be applied in all industries. He warned that before a trade union intervenes in workers clamour for rights, it is good it looks first at what other advantages have been made available by the company to workers. This measure is necessary because sometimes companies offer better advantages to its employees in other areas, for example, lodging but may not necessary have to increase their pay package. In this situation it is worthwhile for workers not to clamour for pay increases. “It is important to first weigh this before making a complaint,” he told them.
