CPDM : Surmountable Challenges

Indiscipline, random resignations and internal wrangling are some of the difficult moments the party has witnessed, yet stood taller in its 38 years of existence.
March 24, 1985 to March 24, 2023, exactly 38 years of the existence of the Cameroon People’s Democratic Movement (CPDM), a political party that was created in Bamenda, North West Region. As the ruling political party of the country, the outfit has stood the test of time, standing strong amidst the tides of political waves.
Indigenous and exogenous challenges have been surmounted by the party. As the political party commemorates its anniversary, in accordance with the circular of the Secretary General of the Central Committee, officials of the party are also prospecting on future political stakes and challenges. After 38 years of seeing through challenges such as multiparty politics in 1990, facing blunt challengers in various local and national elections and consolidating grassroots support, the CPDM party is today at the crossroads of new challenges. The 377 sections of the party thus celebrate this March 24, 2023 within a backdrop of challenges. Currently, they are the highest political party represented in Parliament. Thus, party members have the challenge of rallying behind the National Chairman, Paul Biya, to better prepare on facing the stakes of future elections, as highlighted in the theme of this year’s celebrations.
Aspects of indiscipline and resignation, are stumbling blocks the party has been surmounting in its close to four decades of existence. No year passes without party members resigning or embarking on an action that brings ridicule to the party. The advent of social media has not made things easy for the party either, as critics take to various platforms to rundown the party at any given opportunity.
