Rugby VII Olympic Games Qualifiers : Lions In Mauritius Island

The delegation made up of 12 players and the technical staff left the country yesterday, June 21, 2023 for Mauritius via the Nsimalen International Airport.

The national men’s rugby VII team is in Mauritius Island where they will take part in the 2023 Africa Men’s Rugby sevens qualifying tournament for the 2024 Olympic games in Paris. The delegation made up of 12 players and the technical staff left the country yesterday June 21, 2023 for Mauritius via the Nsimalen International Airport. Prior to their departure, the rugby sevens Lions trained in Akono near Yaounde under the supervision of the head coach, Thomas Mpono. 
The objective of the rugby Lions is to secure a ticket to the Olympic Games. Sources close to the team say the players are upbeat ahead and ready to face any challenge. Cameroon has participated in the Olympic qualifying tournament twice. Their best performance was in 2004 in Tunisia where they reached the final but did not qualify as only one team was needed. Cameroon did not take part in 2008, 2012, 2016 due to suspension. The 2020 edition did not hold due to the Coronavirus pandemic. 
The African qualifiers will take place at the Labourdonnais Sports Grounds, Mauritius from June 24 to 25, 2023. The main event will take place in Zimbabwe from September 16 to 17, 2023. The winner will qualify for the 2...
