Athletics : Cameroonian Athletes Shine In International Scene

The recent performance of sportspersons augurs well for the African Senior Athletics Championships and the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.


It is all showers of blessings at the Cameroon Athletics Federation (FCA) during the past few days. The office of (FCA) is flooded with new records, auguring well for the African Senior Athletics Championships that will take place in 2024 in Cameroon and the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. It all began on May 5, 2023 in the USA with Jorim Bangue (110m hurdles), who braved the event in 13.87. Emmanuel Eseme caused a sensation on Sunday July 2, at the Resisprint International meeting in La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland when he won the 100m race. An easy victory in the 100m in 9.96 and also synonymous with Cameroon's new record and qualification for the World Championships and the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.  He is the ninth African sprinter to go under 10 seconds this season.
With parity between men and women being a reality within the FCA, the women also made their mark. On 11 June 2023 in the USA, Nora MONIE in discus throw propelled the 1 kilogram implement to 58m43. The icing on the cake was on July 1, 2023. Linda Angounou kept the flag of Cameroon flying high by winning the 400m hurdles in 55.94 ahead of Diallo Fatouma who recorded 56.18 ahead of her compatriot Babarosa Vera on the third spot with 56.93.
