Municipal Development : Douala III Holds Evaluation Session

The ordinary session of the council that took place on July 27 was aimed at the mid-term assessment of its budget-execution.

The administrations and councillors of the Douala III council have been called upon to embark on a campaign to sensitize the population to quit risky zones and to leave houses that are a danger. The call was made by the SDO for Wouri, Benjamin Mboutou, during the ordinary session of the council that took place on July 27. This call came after a four-storey building in the Douala V municipality collapsed claiming the lives of more than 40 persons. The SDO also used the opportunity to warn city dwellers that the authorities will descend to the fill in the days ahead to carry out demolishing works.
The Mayor of the Douala III council, Valentin Epoupa Bossambo, said for the half part of the year they have engaged in serious cleaning of rivers and gutters, and waterways to allow the free flow of water so as to avoid flooding with the recent heavy rains.
While presenting the mid-term review of the 2023 budget, the Mayor explained that as of June 30, 2023, the revenue collected stood at FCFA 2,142,000,000 out of the initial estimated budget of 5,280,100,000 FCFA. In terms of the tax base, the Mayor went on, the taxpayer enrolment operation that began in 2021, has enabled the council to reach nearly 37,000 taxpayers by 30 June 2023, almost four times its 2020 level.
