Cameroon Crushes Burundi

The Lionesses overpowered their opponents 3 sets to 0 in their opening match of the competition yesterday August 16, 2023 at the Yaounde Multipurpose Sports Complex.

It was a good start for team Cameroon at the ongoing 2023 edition of the Women's African Nations Volleyball Championship. Cameroon won Burundi 3 sets to 0 in their opening match of the competition yesterday August 16, 2023 at the Yaounde Multipurpose Sports Complex. 
On paper, just like on the court, Cameroon, three-time winners of the competition proved that they are the queens of the forest. They were physically stronger and more experienced that their counterparts who were young and lacked experience in the game. 
The Burundians started getting the strength of the roar of the Lionesses right from the first set. Estelle Adiana of local volleyball side Nyong Ekelle, opened the flood gates when she spiked in the first point. Cameroon later pumped in several others to dominate the first set 25-2. “What a score, this is a 'Jamais vu’ in this level of competition’" were some of the comments from the spectators.
On coming back in the second set, Head Coach Peter Nonnenbroich rotated a majority of his squad hoping that the first set will be similar to the second. But no, the Burundians showed a sharp improvement and caused minor problems for their Cameroonian counterparts. When the second set progressed to 14-7, Coach Nonnenbroich evidently sensed danger and called for a Time Out. His instructions were felt on the court as Cameroon finally won the set 25-8.
