Bilingualism and Multiculturalism : NCPBM Visits Health Establishments

This was during a two day working visit to Douala from the 2- 3 of October 2023.

The National commission for the Promotion of Bilingualism and Multiculturalism was in Douala on October 2-3, 2023 to evaluate and sensitise some hospital authorities on the promotion of bilingualism and multiculturalism. While in Douala, the commission members, including David Abouem A Tchoyi, Barrister Nico Halle and the regional chief of Antenna Ebondje Claude Alexis Dany, took time off to elaborate on the laws on the promotion bilingualism and multiculturalism.
The law, which was promulgated by the President of the Republic on 24 December 2019, lays emphasis on the fact that the official languages of Cameroon (French and English) shall be of equal value, and citizens shall be served in the public Administration in the language of their choice. They were also out to educate on hate speech and xenophobia.
Be it at the Douala General Hospital or the Laquintinie hospital, the head of the delegation, David Abouem A Tchoyi, while reading the message from the president of the commission, former Prime Minister Peter Mafany Musonge, he reiterated that they were out to promote peace, promotion of bilingualism and multiculturalism. He said their visit to the different hospitals in Douala was to ensure that bilingualism is effective, and to learn better ways on improving on the commissions strategies. He urged the hospital authorities to shun hate speech and xenophobia in the hospital milieu.
On his part, Barrister Nico Halle, during the different stops, urged all to use bilingualism to promote peace and construct the society.
