The role played by Théophile Abega during the 1984 Africa Cup of Nations in Côte d’Ivoire cannot be forgotten by many Cameroonian football lovers. Nicknamed, Doctor, Abega captained the Indomitable Lions to their first African Nations Cup title in the 1984. The emblematic midfielder scored three goals during the tournament. After losing to Egypt in their first game on March 4, 1984, Cameroon went ahead to beat the Hawks of Togo 4-1. Théophile Abega scored two goals for Cameroon (21’, 61’) on March 7, 1984. During the final on March 18, 1984 against Nigeria in Abidjan, Théophile Abega scored the second goal at the 79th minute, thanks to his high dribbling skills.
