The 28-year-old midfielder emerged as the first goal scorer of the ongoing TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations in Côte d’Ivoire during the opening match between Côte d’Ivoire and Guinea Bissau. Fofana made history by scoring the first goal of the tournament barely four minutes after kick off at the Ebimpé Olympic Stadium in Abidjan. Côte d’Ivoire beat Guinea Bissau 2-0. Seko Fofana’s goal instilled hope for Côte d’Ivoire as the competition unfolds. Fofana put Côte d’Ivoire ahead and Jean-Philippe Krasso wrapped up the win in the second half.
