African Weightlifting Championships : Cameroonian Grabs 16 Medals

Eyenga Mbo’ossi (81kg) Momeni Estelle Adele (+87kg) and others made the country proud in the competition that ended in Ismaïla on Saturday February 10, 2024.

The 2024 edition of the African Senior Women and Men’s Weightlifting Championship ended in Ismaïla, Egypt on Saturday February 10, 20224. Orgnanised by the African Weightlifting Federation, the completion brought together 15 countries on the continent. Some ten athletes represented Cameroon in the competition. Cameroonian athletes put up remarkable performances in the competition that also served as qualification for the All African Games in Ghana next month. At the end of the competition, Cameroonian weightlifters bagged home a total of 16 medals; eight silver and eight bronze. In the women’s competition, Eyenga Mbo’ossi (81kg) won three silver medals, Momeni Estelle (+87) three silver, Adele (three) and Djifack Rayssa (87kg) two silver medals. In the men’s competition, Sokodjou Sinetang Roger Brest won three bronze, Ngaina II Hermannn (3) Ngadja Nyabeyeu Junior (1), Djifack Ma-Atemkeng Yayssa one medal. 
The Secretary General of the Cameroon Weightlifting Federation, Me Enana Ongono Constantin expressed satisfaction with the performances of the athletes. He said the national weightlifting teams had been training since December 20, 2023. He explained that Eyenga Mbo’ossi is on pole position to qualify for the Olympic Games.
