MTN Elite : One Canon Goes Top

They climbed to 27 points in Group A after their 3-0 win over Bamboutos yesterday at the Ngoa-Ekelle Stadium on match day 16. Dynamo drops after the 1-2 defeat against Colombe.

As the second leg of the MTN Elite One Championship draws to an end, the battle at the top seat has become more complex. Yesterday February 21, 2024, on match day 16, Canon Sportif of Yaounde defeated Bamboutos of Mbouda 3-0 at the Ngoa Ekelle Stadium to go top in Group A with 27 points. Meanwhile, Dynamo was pushed to the second position with 26 points after the 1-2 defeat against Colombe in same venue yesterday.
Despite the three goals scored, the Canon-Bamboutos game was stiff as expected. A first half goal from Henry Paul Tchikeu (penalty) and a brace from Bil Dorol Nsongo Tonfack in the second half sealed the victory for Canon. In the first half, both sides mounted pressure with the ball changing sides easily. Canon had the breakthrough when Bamboutos’ Arnaud Ndongo faulted with a handball in the penalty box.  Henry Paul Tchikeu successfully took the penalty for Canon, leaving goalkeeper Benjamin Munya of Bamboutos helpless. It was 1-0 at the end of the first half.
On return from the lockers, Bamboutos came in walking on banana peels after conceding the first goal. They fought hard, but the Canon guys were swift and concise in their passes creating several opportunities ...
