Basketball : First Phase Rounds Off

Some 16 teams in the senior men’s and women’s basketball championship took part in the competition last weekend in Douala and Yaounde.

The first phase of the national senior men’s and women’s basketball championships for the 2024 season ended with matches played in Yaounde and Douala last weekend. Organised by the Cameroon Basketball Federation (FECABASKET), the competition brought together best teams in the national championship. The competition was the seventh playing day and the fourth conference of the Senior Men’s Elite championship. 
In all, 510 points were scored during the final round of the first phase on Saturday March 16, 2024. Four matches were on programme during the fourth grouping. At the Yaounde Multipurpose Sports Complex, Douala Firebirds beat FCBC Basketball Club of Douala 68-57 and FAP Basketball Club of Yaounde beat ALPH Basketball 62-56. Falcons recorded the biggest scores of the seventh playing day when they beat BEAC of Yaounde 73-66. Elsewhere, four points were enough for KSA to snatch the current lead from Ecole de Basket in a 66-62 duel. Ecole de Basket, who are now out of the driving seat after a successful first leg, will be keen to get back to the top in the return leg. 
During the eighth playing day that took place on Sunday March 17, 2024, Ecole de Basket got up to a difficult start at the Collège de la salle in Douala. Faced with a young team determined to win, Ecole de Basket tried but failed. The two teams were playing against each other as part of the start of the second phase. It was a hard-fought match during which the Bonamoussadi club held the upper hand on points at the end of each quarter; 29-25 at the end of the second quarter and 40-35 at the end of the third quarter hour.
