Intellectual Disability Sport : Inspiration For Many Youths

The 2024 season for the sports discipline opened on Saturday March 2, 2024 at the Nko’vos Stadium in Ebolowa in the South Region.

Intellectual disability sport classification is a  system used for disability sport that allows people with intellectual disabilities to fairly compete with and against other people with intellectual disabilities. People with intellectual disabilities have issues with conceptual skills, social skills and practical skills. They have IQs of 75 points or lower, limitations in adaptive behaviour and their disability manifested and were documented prior to turning 18 years of age. Intellectual disability sport is gaining grounds in the country. 
The Cameroon Federation of Sports for the Intellectually Disabled (FECASDI) is a member of the International Sports Federation for Persons with Intellectual Disability (INAS) and Paralympic events. They organise national ID sports championships. The federation was recognised by law in 2010, and then became a member of the Cameroonian Paralympic Committee in 2011. FECASDI has tried to get its sportspeople qualified for the 2012 Summer Paralympics. They have also hosted several conferences. 
The 2024 season for intellectual disability sport opened on Saturday March 2, 2024 at the Nko’vos Stadium in Ebolowa in the South Region. The town of Ebolowa was chosen for the launch of the season as part of FECASDI’s ambition to popularise and promote the sports discipline in the country. Over 60 athletes from four clubs from across the country took part in the competition. They are the Cardinal Paul Émile Léger National Rehabilitation Centre for the Disabled, “Les jeunes mentaux d'Efoulan , “Association des parents des enfants déficients intellectuels” of Littoral and the Père Monti Centre in Ebolowa.
