Defense, Security Forces : Strides Made in Development

They have constructed and rehabilitated roads, schools, churches as carried out other well as civilio-military actions in the health and educational domains.


Developmental projects across the national territory are also being carried out by the defense and security forces. Gone are the days when huge development projects such as the tarring or rehabilitation of roads, especially those of the national highway used to be carried out only by civilians through contacts awarded by the Ministry of Public Works. Defense and security forces, especially those of the Military Engineering, Corps have constructed or asphalted roads that have facilitated movement of goods and people.
For example, the Rapid Intervention Battalion (BIR), an elite unit of the Cameroonian army, has resumed the construction of the Kumba-Ekondo Titi road. It is a 60 km road that connects the localities of Ekondo-Titi and Kumba in the South-West Region. Some other projects carried out by the Military Engineering Corps in the transport sector include the paved roads of Mokolo-Nkolbisson-Zamengoé, Soa-Omnisport, Camp SONEL Essos-Nkoldongo and Nouvelle Route Bastos in the Centre region. In the Littoral, the Loum-Yabassi, Yabassi-Bonepoupa, General Hospital-Cite des Palmiers roads are to be credited to the Military Engineering Corps. They have also asphalted the Lamoudan-Lagdo road leading to the hydroelectric dam on the Benoué River in the North Region. Roads have also been constructed in other regions of the country.
Besides roads, the Military Engineering Corps has also built schools in the South Region (Alati and Mbalam) to enhance the literacy rate, the construction of a bailey bridge at Widikum in the North West Region and in Konye in the South West Region as well as the development of the site for the Ngaoundéré airport and an 800-metre airfield at Nguti, South West Region.
