SAGO 2016: Exhibitors Count Communication Gains

The Exhibition of Government Activities ended at the National Museum on August 28, 2016.

The six-day fifth edition of the Government Activities Exhibition named “Cameroon’s Window, SAGO 2016” ended at the National Museum in Yaounde on August 28, 2016, with various ministries, public institutions and corporations counting gains from their interaction with the public. While several panel discussions offered opportunities for presentations of their institutions, the exhibitors also heralded the positive feedback received from visitors to 150 stands. Canopies clad in various institutional and corporate colours and stewards dished out flyers, brochures and other gadgets to satisfy visitors’ quest for information.

At the National Anti-Corruption Commission stand, one of the hostesses, Christelle Jhon, told Cameroon Tribune that during the six days, the stand received over 100 visitors daily from 8:30 am to 6:30 pm. Through documents such as annual reports from 2011 to 2014, and the March 11, 2006 decree creating the Commission, visitors learnt about the activities of the corruption watchdog.

Meanwhile, several programmes and projects of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development gave out information on funding opportunities to support youths in their agricultural initiatives. Exhibitors from the private sector were also counting their benefits from the SAGO event. According to one of the officials of the Cotton Development Company, SODECOTON, Dr. Mamoudou Assana, several visitors were amazed to discover their highly nutritive cooking oil refined from cotton and soybean. “We retailed 10 to 25 cartons of cooking oil per day during the exhibition,” he said. The event that was conceived in 2011 by the “Mon Communicateur” firm, recorded over 70,000 visitors this year.
