Energy Compact: Cameroon Presents Offers In New York

The country joined world leaders at the Bloomberg Philanthropies Global Forum in partnership with the World Bank Group and the African Development Bank to launch its project.

The launch, held on the sidelines of the 80th United Nations General Assembly Session, signals government’s determination to expand electricity access and harness its vast renewable potential, as it matches its national aspirations with international partnership. Representing Cameroon was the Minister of Water Resources and Energy, Gaston Eloundou Essomba and Finance Minister, Louis Paul Motaze, accompanied by Cameroon’s Ambassador to the US. Cameroon’s National Energy Compact outlines its commitments to accelerate hydropower and solar development, extend the national grid, and connect millions of households still living without reliable electricity. The launch and endorsement of Cameroon’s National Energy Compact reflects President Paul Biya’s vision of emergence, with energy infrastructure as a cornerstone of industrial growth, job creation, and regional integration. By aligning with global partners and securing new financing channels, Cameroon is positioning itself not only to meet domestic demands but also to become a future energy hub in Central Africa.
