Onerous Stewardship

Like other past years, 2025 had its pleasant and unpleasant surprises, some of them unprecedented and very disturbing. Could some, if not most of these be averted? Yes; why not? The challenge is striving to forge ahead despite the unpalatable trends of life. Without the ingredients of genuine patriotism we cannot claim any commitment to the solution of today’s problems and those of future generations.
As we look forward to the New Year, 2026 with a craving, for unity, peace and fruitful corporation, we have to learn from the causes of our failures and successes, so as to minimize sighs and regrets at the end of every 12 months.
Thank God, government, despite several challenges during the year, continued to show concern for the socio-political needs of nationals as well as the international community. This is important because without concern for the political, economic and socio-cultural needs, besides others, compatriots mandated to serve cannot claim to be genuine servants of the electorate, and the nation at large.
Fortunately in Cameroon, while we call on administration to serve effectively we do not close our eyes to what is being done despite the constraints. In education for example, while there is great need for youth employment, citizens do not regret the existence of Universities in all ten regions of the country. There is emphasis on professionalization of study programmes to ensure that graduates become job creators, and not just job seekers.
Government on its part continued to open and equip public institutions of learning, at the secondary, Technical and Higher levels. These however, can only be considered an asset to the nation if teachers and the taught put them into effective use.
For, in the appointment or election of compatriots to serve in politics, the economy, and other domains, there is need to select the best for service of fellow citizens. Cameroonians for example, were proud to have their compatriot, H.E Philemon Yang elected to serve as the 79th President of the United Nations General Assembly. In Football, for example, they are proud of Roger Milla, Eto’o Fills, Hakimi Mbeumo, to mention just these few besides many others. In music who doubts the pride and honour Manu Bango, of blessed memory and others like Charlotte Dipanda, have meant to our country, and Africa at large?
In actual fact as the years come and go, we celebrate or regret our mistakes, and misdeeds, we face the challenge of evaluating our contributions towards the affluence of today and future generations.
Fortunately, in Cameroon, like elsewhere, despite the various situations faced during the years, there is always some cause for smiles, no matter how genuine.
In 2025 for example, the Cameroon Development Corporation, C.D.C. regained hopes, when Government secured for the corporation, the sum of cfa 51.8billion to revive and modernise productions. This will mean much to the corporation if the money is well managed.
Besides this good deal, administration gave travellers joy when the Bamenda-Babadjou stretch of the road was inaugurated and significant progress reported...
