Tackling Domestic Violence: Legal Clinic Launched

In a significant move to promote women's rights and empowerment, the Cameroon Association for Female Jurists and the African Centre for International, Diplomatic, Economic, and Strategic Studies, dubbed as CEIDES in the French language have launched a landmark legal clinic aiming to provide vital support and guidance to women and girls affected by domestic violence and other forms of gender-based violence. According to the Coordinator of CEIDES Women and Kids House, Meva’a Christiane Murielle, the legal clinic is part of CEIDES Special Women's Day Programme, launched last month, with the aim to provide support and services to women in need. It offers a one-on-one consultation for women with trained magistrates, while providing a safe and confidential space for women to share their experiences and receive expert advice on addressing their legal issues. Meva’a Christiane Murielle explained that the programme has already conducted free medical consultations and is set to continue with further initiatives, including advocacy and awareness-raising campaigns on women’s empowerment. The UN Women Resident Representative, Marie Pierre Raky Chaupin said her duty and mission is to stand alongside all actors and stakeholders who initiate programmes that support women's rights.
